Aviary Education provides easy to use photo editing tools that can edit photos, overlay images on top of existing pictures, and apply special effects to photos. With the use of this education side of Aviary, teachers can create class and student accounts to allow for privacy and manage assignments and projects. In addition to the image editor, vector editor, audio editor and music creator are available.

Fotobabble

Fotobabble  allows users to upload a picture from either a web page via URL or from a desktop or laptop, and add audio to the picture. Classroom applications include using the site to present on a person, place, or concept.

Users are required to sign up for a free account before they can make a “fotobabble” but once it is made, users may share the photo on social networks, send a link in an email, or embed the photo.

There is also a free Fotobabble App for iDevices!

Prezi

Prezi (no-filtering, teacher-use-only, high, parent-permission-required-under-18)

Prezi allows users to make a presentation that can be accessed online as well as downloaded for offline use. The most obvious instructional application would be to have students compile content, and then create a presentation. Prezi, however, could also be used as a repository for collaborative efforts in the classroom.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Questionable content is searchable
  • You can embed, download, email or print it
  • Prezi is public unless you pay for the right to make it private
  • Tutorials are available on the web site
  • Several types of accounts are available including EDU

Blabberize

Blabberize (filtering, elementary, middle, high, parent-permission-required-under-13)

Using individual accounts, Blabberize allows users to give photos a voice. Users can save their finished product as an mp4, embed it, or link to it.

Classroom applications could be to use Blabberize to highlight key vocabulary or concepts in any subject.
